Movement and Performance

In traditional theatre, fictional characters encounter each other on stage and interact based on a script. But what happens when you’re standing on stage without a role? How do you understand yourself as a role? You are constantly reinventing yourself, in order to be able to function in different situations. Which roles do you play in your daily life? Which forms of expression are your go-tos, and which new ones would you like to try out? Everyone who wants to can find a way to express themselves on stage. Whether verbal or physical – we want to discover ours together. 

In this project, the presentation of the participants themselves as stage-characters – in their endlessly diverse forms – takes the foreground. We begin with exercises and activities that further performative and artistic self-expression: writing prompts, movement experiments, improvisation techniques. Some of these tasks will be individual, while others will be played through as a group. The participants observe and engage with social roles and constructions in their own lives, and develop small, vignette-like solo sequences. They continue to work on these individual sketches by trying things out and practicing self-reflection, and with the help of facilitated group feedback. At the same time, participants collectively develop group scenes that work with the same themes as the solos, and either function as their backgrounds or stand for themselves. In order to prepare for a final, cohesive presentation, the participants work together to thematically and artistically connect the developed scenes and sketches.

  • A sense for personal aesthetics and forms of expression
  • Contemplation of personal themes in social and artistic contexts
  • Movement- and body-awareness
  • Creative work with language
  • Dramaturgical thinking
  • Feedback methods and giving and receiving productive critique
